
“Shocked by the accident at the Glória Elevator in Lisbon, I want to express my solidarity with all those affected by this tragedy and their families,” reads a statement from the PS leader on social media.
José Luís Carneiro stated that “once the rescue operations are completed, it is absolutely necessary to thoroughly investigate the causes that led to this tragedy.”
The PS leader also expressed his gratitude “for the work of all the protection and rescue services who are doing their utmost to support the victims.”
The Glória Elevator in Lisbon derailed this afternoon at 6:04 PM on Calçada da Glória.

The PSP confirms the existence of fatalities in the derailment of the Glória Elevator but does not specify the number of deceased. Several people are injured, with at least five in serious condition.
The Glória Elevator is operated by Carris and connects Restauradores to the São Pedro de Alcântara Garden in Bairro Alto, covering a distance of about 265 meters and is highly popular with tourists.
