During a visit to a school in Braga to mark the start of the academic year, Carneiro highlighted that this issue will receive “specific treatment” at the PS Strategic Council, set to take place in the coming days.
“About 10,000 vacancies remained unfilled this year, indicating serious problems, as this is the first time this has happened since 2016,” he noted.
The socialist leader recalled that since 2016, the number of students entering higher education, and their first choices, had been consistently increasing.
“There was an apparent setback, and it is now necessary to study its causes. It seems to me that the economic and social difficulties families are facing, particularly concerning housing costs, could be one of the factors justifying this decline,” he pointed out.
