PS leader will travel along National 2 to “listen and give voice to Portugal”

José Luís Carneiro will begin his journey next Monday in Chaves and conclude four days later in Faro.

The launch of the EN2 initiative, which focuses on the importance of cohesion policies and the threats they face in the new community framework, will feature participation from Elisa Ferreira, former European Commissioner, Vasco Cordeiro, former President of the Committee of the Regions, and Nuno Vaz, Mayor of Chaves, according to an official party source.

The same source stated that the purpose of this route is “to listen to and give a voice to the Portuguese and the regions that, through their richness and diversity, represent Portugal, and to deepen the proposal for the establishment of local development contracts as instruments of cohesion.”

The uniqueness of this route—and one of its main assets—is precisely the connection it establishes between different regions, various economic activities, and distinct social realities, while also uniting public and private institutions with diverse activities, explained the Socialist Party.

The Socialists also noted that “due to the characteristics of the territory traversed by EN2, there are several successful cases and collaborations between public and private institutions that have joined forces for local development models.”

During the EN2 journey, the leader of the Socialist Party will make stops for “visits to various institutions and direct contact with the population,” aiming to “demonstrate successes and opportunities for the territories.” Overnight stays are planned in Viseu, Pedrógão, Ponte de Sor, and Aljustrel.
