Santos Silva joined the national municipal campaign of the PS leader, José Luís Carneiro, today and spoke at the rally held in Matosinhos, a socialist stronghold where the current president of the municipality and president of the ANMP, Luísa Salgueiro, is running for re-election.
“Matosinhos is also the right place to discuss the national significance of these elections, given that the mayor of Matosinhos is also the president of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities, and this is because the PS is the most important force, the leading force, the force in which the Portuguese trust most for local power,” he praised.
According to the former president of parliament, the strength of the PS “results from the social implantation” of the party and “from people knowing the PS” and trusting this party.
“From people knowing that here they count on people who love freedom, value equal opportunities, practice solidarity and never, never, never ally with those who want to destroy our democracy,” he emphasized.
Santos Silva questioned whether there is “anyone else capable of winning elections that meets these criteria.”
“There isn’t. That’s why people trust the PS,” he promptly answered his own question.
The former minister forecasted a “big victory” in Matosinhos and also across the country in the upcoming elections on Sunday.
“But for that, we need to mobilize ourselves. No one wins elections before election day. (…) This week is a week to mobilize people, to spread our ideas, to present our teams, but above all to go precinct by precinct, market by market, street by street, house by house, to invite people to vote. Because if people vote, the PS will win,” he urged.
