The announcement was made by the Secretary-General of the PS, José Luís Carneiro, in Guarda, stating, “These are good news at a time when the Government wants a debate on the fiscal dimension in parliament next Thursday.”
The Socialist leader participated in the ceremony for the presentation of the candidate for the Câmara da Guarda, António Monteirinho, and before the session, when questioned by journalists, briefly commented on the poll released today by Diário de Notícias, which, for the first time, places Chega ahead of AD and the PS in voting intentions for legislative elections.
“There are polls for all tastes, we also have ours, which put us ahead, others that show us tied with AD, but always Chega in third place,” he replied.
According to José Luís Carneiro, the proposals to change the fiscal structure presented by the socialists in São Bento are “the issues that concern people.”
The reduction of corporate tax for companies located in the interior was a commitment that the Secretary-General of the PS had assumed when he traveled the Estrada Nacional (EN) 2 in August.
“We also recommend to the Government that we can adopt a zero VAT for essential food items, in light of the commitments we made during the electoral campaign, still with the previous Secretary-General of the PS,” he recalled.
“Thirdly, we want young people to have a more favorable personal income tax, which allows accumulation with support, namely, for higher education tuition fees,” José Luís Carneiro added.
In Guarda, the former Minister of Internal Administration also provided another example of “good news,” being the one who decided to implement the installation of the National Command of the Emergency, Protection, and Relief Unit (UEPS) of the GNR, in Guarda.
“The UEPS has several military personnel here who contribute to the local economy, to the security of the territory, and to the development of this region,” he said.
The Socialist leader added that this measure was part of “the decisions made by António Costa to value the municipalities of the interior.”
