“There are no measures in the Socialist Party’s [electoral] program to lower house prices,” stated Mariana Mortágua during a press conference this morning at the national party headquarters in Lisbon.
The coordinator of the Left Bloc (BE) criticizes the party led by Pedro Nuno Santos for persisting with “exactly the same proposals that have dragged the housing crisis to this day.”
“They may have an impact in about 20 years on the housing market,” but “they abandon the population today,” she accused.
The Bloc coordinator argues that the “intervention matrix” in terms of housing “is one of tax benefits, which have already proven to be irrelevant, inconsequential, useless, and ineffective.”
The Left Bloc today presented six measures, which will be included in its electoral program, to address the housing crisis. These include simplifying the tenancy law, “empowering tenants” to report contracts without fear of retaliation, and imposing a moratorium on the construction of new hotels.
