PS remembers the “exemplary and multifaceted career” of José Junqueiro

“Holder of an exemplary and multifaceted career, he successfully combined political action with university teaching and was a prominent political figure, both nationally and locally,” reads a statement from the PS published on the party’s official website.

The PS expressed “the fond memory that José Junqueiro leaves within it” and extended heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

The socialists recall the career of the former government official and deputy, a native of Viseu, who earned a doctorate in Didactics of Classical Languages from the University of Aveiro, where he also lectured, noting that “his political action had a municipal and parliamentary dimension, marked by a focus on the requalification of people and services.”

“He was Secretary of State for Maritime and Port Administration from 2000 to 2002 and later, from 2009 to 2011, Secretary of State for Local Administration. His governmental experience will forever be associated with modernization, administrative simplification, and transparency,” the PS stated.

Always elected by the electoral district of Viseu, José Junqueiro was vice-president of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group and President of the Social Equipment Committee, highlights the PS, which also notes that he was a council member of Viseu City Council and a candidate for the presidency of the municipality in 2013.

“Author of several publications in the scientific area of his specialty, he also gained international recognition. He represented Portugal in the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly, where he chaired the Committee on Political Cooperation and Security,” the socialists emphasize in the same statement.
