PS says that the Constitutional Court decision restores “common sense” and calls for humility from PSD and CDS

“It is good news for upholding the Constitution and the rules regarding how we should legislate,” said PS deputy Pedro Delgado Alves in a statement.

According to the socialist, the President of the Republic “did well to send this law to the Constitutional Court,” and the court “clearly restored what had been lost and what the majority of the PSD, CDS, and Chega approved last July.”

“It would be relevant for the PSD to return to common sense. The common sense of conducting these processes in an inclusive manner, speaking with everyone, not hiding behind the excuse they invented of being unable to talk to the Socialist Party,” he argued.

For the PS deputy, after the President’s veto, “there is now an opportunity to effectively correct all these mistakes and prevent a bad law from being passed.”

“It is a poor legislative procedure, in its form, and the content also directly clashed with the Constitution,” he emphasized.

Pedro Delgado Alves expressed hope that “this decision brings some humility to the decision that PSD and CDS will make and that they adequately reflect on how to overcome the problem.”

“In reactions last week, the Government still maintained a somewhat arrogant and lofty posture, refusing to acknowledge that beyond minor alterations, there were structural problems with what was presented,” he criticized.

According to the socialist, the Constitutional Court “made it very clear what cannot be done,” calling for “a well-thought-out, well-executed process that is as comprehensive as possible, involving the various relevant entities that were not consulted the first time around.”
