The presentation of the Futuro Seguro Movement took place today in Lisbon, where António José Seguro addressed questions regarding a proposal by the secretary-general and president of the PS to the National Socialist Commission to support his presidential candidacy.
“I take note of this news, but I neither want nor should I interfere in the internal affairs of political parties in Portugal. My candidacy was presented four months ago and has been garnering increasing support, from the left, right, center, and from individuals without any party affiliation. That’s where I will continue,” he stated.
The former PS secretary-general described his candidacy for Belém as “open, plural, and aimed at all democrats, humanists, and progressives.”
“The role of the President of the Republic is to be above parties, as a President who serves the country, with dialogue, independence, and above all to help solve the problems of the Portuguese people,” he emphasized.
When pressed by journalists, Seguro remarked that “no candidate is bothered by having support.”
“I want to be the President of all Portuguese, and therefore, the more support I have, the better,” he noted.
