“We need to launch a broad process of public participation and involvement of local and national institutions to seek to promote investment in the living conditions of those who reside in areas with significant disparities,” stated José Luís Carneiro in the municipality of Pedrógão Grande, in the district of Leiria, which was severely affected by fires in 2017.
The Socialist leader, speaking to journalists at the end of a dinner with dozens of supporters as part of the route along National Road (EN) 2 “For Cohesion and Enhancement of the Territory,” advocated for private investment by “using instruments and tax incentives,” such as Corporate Income Tax (IRC).
The PS Secretary-General proposes the use of IRC “as an instrument in service of economic and social cohesion” and measures that support the creation of Business Location Parks for the establishment of companies.
Thus, José Luís Carneiro aims to find a governance model that “adapts government solutions to the territories and their specific needs.”
“We must move forward with territorial development contracts that adapt to each territory, mobilizing national resources to combat asymmetries and inequalities,” he emphasized.
For the socialist leader, politicians have the duty to place this matter at the political priority of the country.
“It is a duty we have, and I am fulfilling my mission of public service,” stressed José Luís Carneiro, who concluded the second day of the EN2 Route “For Cohesion and Enhancement of the Territory” in Pedrógão Grande, after beginning the tour on Monday in Chaves, at the zero kilometer mark of the EN2.
The road spans 738 kilometers, connecting Trás-os-Montes to the Algarve through the country’s interior, and has become a tourist route attracting many domestic and foreign visitors.
