Lisbon hosted the presentation of the Socialist Party’s electoral program for the legislative elections scheduled for May 18. The party emphasizes its intent to negotiate a new agreement to enhance wages through social dialogue, setting more ambitious targets for raising the national minimum and average salaries.
The Socialist Party aims to increase the minimum wage by at least 60 euros annually, hoping to achieve a minimum rise of 240 euros, reaching 1,110 euros by 2029, coinciding with the end of the legislative term.
Regarding the average salary, the party proposes an annual increase of at least 5%, intending to reach a minimum of 2,000 euros by 2029.
In the labor sector, the party also commits to advocating for and discussing a package of measures within the framework of social dialogue to promote work-life balance and support parenthood.
Among the proposed measures is a phased reduction of the workweek from 40 to 37.5 hours for all workers. This will be discussed with social partners, taking into account the economic situation and impact assessments across different sectors.
In terms of parental support, with the goal of increasing families’ disposable income, the Socialist Party intends to bolster social support for children.
This includes raising family allowance for children aged three to six by two increments of 25%—one in 2026 and another in 2028—to address discrepancies in protection levels between early and later childhood.
Additionally, the party plans to implement a “nest egg” program, offering every child born from the beginning of this year 500 euros in savings certificates, a measure previously announced by the party.
