The Socialist Party’s Parliamentary Group has requested a hearing with the Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida, to obtain clarifications on the status of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and Portugal 2030, including identified constraints and ongoing measures to ensure compliance with the timelines set by the European Commission, as stated in a communication.
The Socialist Party also requested hearings with the president of the National Monitoring Commission of the PRR, Pedro Dominguinhos, and the head of the Recover Portugal Task Force, Fernando Alfaiate, to assess the progress of the PRR’s implementation.
The party underscored that the PRR is in its most critical phase, with the execution deadline set for June 30, 2026, and that Portugal 2030 is still in its early implementation phase.
At the end of June, the European Commission issued a preliminary favorable opinion on the sixth payment request submitted by Portugal under the NextGenerationEU program.
The request, submitted on November 14, 2024, received approval following the successful completion of 32 milestones and targets outlined in the PRR.
On June 26, Portugal submitted its seventh payment request under the PRR to Brussels, which includes 21 milestones linked to investments and six related to reforms.
The seventh PRR payment request amounts to 1.064 billion euros, subtracting pre-financing.
With the submission of these 27 milestones and targets in the seventh payment request, the PRR’s execution rate, which concludes mid-2026, rises to 47%.
The PRR, set to be fully implemented by 2026, aims to enact various reforms and investments focused on economic growth recovery.
In addition to addressing the damages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, this plan aims to support investments and generate employment.
