PS warns that it will not accept “setbacks in labor protection”

“We will not accept setbacks in labor protection, and we will not accept setbacks in social support, because this is the heritage of the country, not the property of this Government, and the PS will be here in this Assembly of the Republic to defend it,” stated socialist deputy Tiago Barbosa Ribeiro.

During a discussion on the Government’s program in the Assembly of the Republic, the deputy accused the Government of choosing to “submit to the pressure of a radical and liberal right to retreat in these rights,” and assured that “the PS will not accept this.”

Nevertheless, Tiago Barbosa Ribeiro expressed the PS’s willingness to engage in debates on “the challenges of digital transition, on the valorization of dignified work, on new areas of labor legislation,” highlighting that the socialists have been “leaders in governance in several of these areas.”

“In a scenario where there is no absolute majority, in a context where political responsibility demands that governance is not confused with imposition, nor openness to dialogue confused with yielding to demagoguery, the PS will be here to offer stability, to offer confidence, to provide a direction from the opposition,” he stated.

In his intervention, the PS deputy also accused the Government of presenting measures in its program of action that were not included in the electoral program.

“Specifically in the field of work, income, and labor legislation, the Government’s program advances with measures and proposals that were not part of the AD’s electoral program and were neither discussed nor endorsed during the electoral campaign,” he added, considering that “they were hidden from the country because the Government and the Prime Minister know that they do not have the country’s support.”

In another intervention focused on foreign policy, IL deputy Rodrigo Saraiva announced that the party will “present several resolutions in the coming days to promote better relations with Taiwan, including the opening of diplomatic and economic representation” in that territory.

Rodrigo Saraiva argued that this “is a market that meets all the criteria present in the Government’s program” and questioned whether the proposal will have the support of the parties backing the executive or if “Portugal will continue to be submissive to China.”
