PSD and CDS reject subsidized credit for families with disabilities

Four proposed bills were under consideration, presented by the Socialist Party (PS), Livre, People-Animals-Nature Party (PAN), and the Left Bloc. These bills collectively argued that the credit benefit regime for home purchases should not be limited to individuals with disabilities but extended to their families and households.

The PS bill, which included proposals such as raising the maximum loan amount to 450,000 euros and implementing a phased reduction in benefits if the disability degree is re-evaluated and reduced, leading to possible regime loss, was rejected by votes from PSD and CDS, with Chega and Liberal Initiative (IL) abstaining.

The Livre bill aiming to extend subsidized housing credit to family members living with a person with a disability was rejected with votes against from PSD and CDS, and abstentions from Chega and IL.

The PAN bill was also dismissed by the CDS and PSD votes and Chega’s abstention, as was the Left Bloc’s bill, which not only faced opposition from CDS and PSD but also from IL, with Chega abstaining.

The only measure approved unanimously was the CDS resolution recommending the government to include criteria in housing mapping and distribution to facilitate access for families with members who have reduced mobility.
