This position was conveyed to journalists by Hugo Soares in parliament, immediately following a press conference by André Ventura, during which he threatened to break ties unless PSD and CDS concede to some of Chega’s demands.
Among other points, the leader of Chega emphasized that including a provision for the loss of nationality for those committing serious crimes, such as terrorism, is a red line for approving the revision of nationality law.
Facing journalists, Hugo Soares chose not to comment on each of Chega’s demands but sought to assure that the final version supported by PSD will comply with the Constitution of the Republic, stating, “I hope there will be no more tantrums and that there is democratic maturity so this law can come to fruition.”
He further asserted, “In PSD, we do not bring ongoing negotiations between parliamentary groups regarding the revision of nationality law to the public forum.”
