PSD, CDS, IL, and Chega halt debate on housing proposed by PCP

At the leaders’ conference meeting today, the request for scheduling by the communist bench received support from PS, Livre, and Bloco de Esquerda.

“The attitude of the right-wing benches was unbelievable. During periods of dissolution of the Assembly of the Republic, there have always been debates proposed by political forces to be held in the Standing Committee, even with the presence of government members,” stated PCP bench leader, Paula Santos.

Paula Santos later accused PSD, Chega, Iniciativa Liberal, and CDS of not wanting to discuss the issue of housing, which is why they chose to “prevent a debate on such an important and serious matter.”

“More and more families are struggling to bear housing costs, families who end up abandoning their homes because they cannot pay increasingly high rents. This, too, when we know precarious housing has been multiplying in the country,” she pointed out.

Paula Santos also noted that despite this scheduling being blocked by opposition from the right-wing benches, the theme of the PCP’s political statement on Wednesday, also at the Standing Committee meeting, will focus on housing.

“This is a highly topical issue that naturally requires intervention to safeguard the right to housing. We will bring to the Assembly of the Republic the concerns that affect thousands and thousands of families in our country,” added the president of the PCP Parliamentary Group.
