PSD, CDS-PP, and IL formalize a coalition agreement in Lisbon on Wednesday.

An inquiry about candidate lists of the coalition running for Lisbon’s city council, municipal assembly, and 24 parish councils revealed that updates would only be available on August 18, when the lists are officially submitted.

The “Por ti, Lisboa” coalition, comprising PSD, CDS-PP, and IL, is led by social democrat Carlos Moedas, who is the lead candidate for the Lisbon City Council presidency in the local elections on October 12.

The Observador reports that in the City Council candidates’ list, CDS-PP, which previously held four out of nine top positions in the coalition “Novos Tempos” in 2021, now has two seats akin to IL.

Following Carlos Moedas on the candidate list are three individuals selected by him, with expectations of proposing Gonçalo Reis, a business manager and former president of RTP, for the position of vice president. Reis is also involved in a civic movement focused on urbanism, sustainability, culture, social economy, and sports, without political aspirations.

The following four positions between fifth and eighth in the potentially electable candidates list are split between CDS-PP and IL, says the Observador.

IL’s candidates for council members include Rodrigo Mello Gonçalves, Lisbon’s current coordinator and municipal deputy, and Vasco Anjos.

In Lisbon’s 24 parish councils, CDS-PP’s candidates for presidency decreased from nine to six, while IL will nominate candidates for Campolide, Olivais, and Alcântara parishes.

The coalition’s lead candidate for the municipal assembly is to be chosen by PSD, with IL negotiating six potential election seats for its municipal deputies.

On July 16, Carlos Moedas launched “Por ti, Lisboa,” heading the PSD/CDS-PP/IL coalition in the upcoming local elections, stating his candidacy is not against anyone but between moderation and radicalism.

The current Lisbon council includes seven elected from “Novos Tempos” (PSD/CDS-PP/MPT/PPM/Aliança), seven from “Mais Lisboa” (PS/Livre), two from CDU, and one from BE.

Candidates for the Lisbon City Council presidency on October 12 include Alexandra Leitão (PS/Livre/BE/PAN), Carlos Moedas (PSD/CDS-PP/IL), João Ferreira (CDU – PCP/PEV coalition), Ossanda Líber (Nova Direita), Bruno Mascarenhas (Chega), and José Almeida (Volt).
