PSD highlights that Madeira’s Budget for 2026 will ensure “stability”

Jaime Filipe Ramos highlighted recent political instability in the archipelago, noting a period when it operated under provisional budgets, and stated that the budget for 2026 represents “a regular budget in the regional reality, […] to be executed over 12 months.”

“This is the main factor for us,” he told journalists following a meeting with the regional Finance Secretary, Duarte Freitas (PSD/CDS-PP), in Funchal, in preparation for the Autonomous Region of Madeira’s 2026 budget proposal.

“Overall, the PSD is satisfied with this meeting, believing conditions exist for stability next year and a budget that can be fully implemented over the 12 months,” he emphasized.

“Secondly, the document will maintain the course set by previous administrations and ensure commitments to the population,” stated the PSD deputy, whose party supports the Regional Government in coalition with the CDS-PP.

The social democrat emphasized “tax reduction,” noting that following a corporate tax reduction by the national government, Madeira could have the country’s lowest corporate tax (13.3%) due to a 30% tax differential.

“It’s clearly a significant measure for competitiveness, not only for businesses but also to attract investment to the region,” he noted.

Jaime Filipe Ramos also affirmed that the government led by Miguel Albuquerque will continue “strong investments” in housing, health, and education, while maintaining “commitments to the population.”

The Finance Secretary met today with representatives from the six political parties holding seats in the regional parliament, in order of increasing representation: IL, CDS-PP, Chega, PS, JPP, and PSD.

The Regional Budget for the coming year is assured approval, as PSD and CDS-PP hold an absolute majority in the island parliament.

The document is expected to be submitted to Madeira’s Legislative Assembly in November, with discussions scheduled from December 15 to 18.
