The leader of PSD Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, announced that negotiations with CDS to form the next regional government are set to occur this Monday, despite acknowledging that he has “not yet” spoken with José Manuel Rodrigues, the sole deputy elected by CDS.
“We will handle everything today. Thank you, goodbye. I’m going to have breakfast now,” stated Miguel Albuquerque in a brief comment to the Diário de Notícias da Madeira as he arrived this morning at the official residence of the regional government president.
Miguel Albuquerque’s PSD won the regional elections in Madeira on Sunday, securing 43.43% of the votes (62,085 votes) and 23 seats in the Regional Legislative Assembly, which comprises a total of 47 deputies. The party requires only one more deputy—potentially the one from CDS—to achieve an absolute majority.

The party led by Miguel Albuquerque made significant gains in the early regional elections. Marcelo interpreted the success as an “absolute majority” and believes the choice by the people of Madeira ensures “stability.” On the mainland, Montenegro expressed satisfaction with the “extraordinary victory,” while Pedro Nuno distanced himself from the “defeat of PS Madeira.” Stay updated on the election results and all reactions.

The JPP secured 21.05% of the votes (30,094 votes) and 11 seats in the regional parliament, while the PS moved from second to third place, garnering 15.64% (22,355 votes) and eight parliamentary seats. Following them were Chega, which elected three deputies, and both IL and CDS, each securing one seat.
The Legislative Assembly of Madeira will now consist of 23 deputies from PSD (just one short of an absolute majority), 11 from JPP, eight from PS, three from Chega, and one each from CDS and IL.
