PSD rejects the suggestion from PS and proceeds to vote on immigration bills.

The PSD opposes the PS’s suggestion that the government bills on immigration, due for discussion in parliament on Friday, should bypass voting and proceed directly to the specialty phase. Instead, the PSD insists these bills should be subjected to a general vote on Friday.

This stance was articulated by the Social Democratic parliamentary leader, Hugo Soares, at the Assembly of the Republic after being approached about the PS’s proposal. The PS suggested that the government’s immigration bills be sent directly to the specialty stage to “eliminate legal and constitutional uncertainty” and facilitate detailed committee work.

Hugo Soares dismissed these arguments, emphasizing that the bills concerning immigration regulation are “priorities,” and therefore “parties should take a stance immediately.”

The president of the PSD Parliamentary Group expressed a willingness to work on the government’s bills during the specialty phase but voiced “concern” that the PS has yet to fully grasp the real issue of immigration.
