PSI down with EDP Renováveis and Mota-Engil falling 1.84% and 1.72%

As of 09:15 in Lisbon, the PSI maintained its opening trend, slipping 0.58% to 8,072.67 points. This follows a new high since January 2010 of 8,484.01 points recorded on November 5, with seven stocks declining, seven advancing, and two remaining unchanged (Altri at 4.55 euros and Semapa at 17.20 euros).

Mota-Engil announced on Tuesday that it recorded group attributable profits of 92 million euros for the first nine months of the year, marking a 20% year-on-year increase, according to a company statement.

According to the company’s trading update, revenue for this period amounted to 4.090 billion euros, a 1.4% decrease compared to the same period last year.

The EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) increased by 15% to 699 million euros.

Following were the shares of EDP Renewables and Mota-Engil, with EDP, REN, and BCP also losing value, specifically by 1.03% to 3.75 euros, 0.90% to 3.32 euros, and 0.89% to 0.78 euros respectively.

The other two declining stocks were Teixeira Duarte (-0.57% to 0.70 euros) and CTT (-0.14% to 7.09 euros).

Conversely, shares of Sonae, Ibersol, and Jerónimo Martins increased by 2.68% to 1.46 euros, 0.96% to 10.55 euros, and 0.66% to 21.44 euros respectively.

More moderately, shares of NOS and Navigator both advanced by 0.27% to 3.67 euros and 2.98 euros respectively.

Similarly, Corticeira Amorim and Galp shares rose by 0.16% to 6.46 euros and 0.14% to 18.08 euros respectively.

Main European stock exchanges opened negatively today, having closed on Tuesday with this trend for the fourth consecutive session, as investors awaited Nvidia’s results, which are expected after Wall Street’s closing.

Additionally, the minutes from the last Federal Reserve (Fed) meeting in the U.S., where a second consecutive quarter-point rate reduction was decided, bringing rates to between 3.75% and 4%, will be released today.

In Europe, October’s inflation data for the Eurozone and the UK will be released today.

Wall Street futures currently indicate slight increases around 0.10% for both the Dow Jones and Nasdaq.

Wall Street closed lower on Tuesday, once again impacted by technology companies amid investor doubts about the sustainability of artificial intelligence (AI) growth.

Brent crude, the European benchmark for January 2026 delivery, is falling to 64.37 dollars compared to 64.89 dollars on Tuesday.

The euro rose to 1.1582 dollars in the Frankfurt foreign exchange market, against 1.1576 dollars on Tuesday and a new four-year high of 1.1865 dollars, reached on September 16.
