PSI on the rise, with BCP and Sonae leading gains and rising nearly 1.5%

At 9:30 AM in Lisbon, the PSI maintained its opening trend, rising 0.69% to 7,760.82 points, with 11 stocks gaining value, three declining (Corticeira Amorim by 0.38% to 7.83 euros, EDP Renováveis by 0.19% to 10.24 euros, and Semapa by 0.11% to 17.40 euros), and one remaining stable (Ibersol at 9.86 euros).

The shares of BCP and Sonae were followed by Mota-Engil, CTT, and REN, which increased by 1.22% to 4.33 euros, 1.17% to 7.78 euros, and 1.14% to 3.11 euros, respectively.

More moderately, Jerónimo Martins, EDP, and Galp saw increases of 0.71% to 22.68 euros, 0.70% to 3.86 euros, and 0.43% to 16.20 euros.

Navigator, Altri, and NOS also recorded gains, specifically 0.31% to 3.28 euros, 0.30% to 4.93 euros, and 0.26% to 3.80 euros.

Major European stock markets opened cautiously and on a positive note, once again focused on the tariff negotiations between the EU and the US.

Investors are also awaiting further corporate earnings reports in the United States.

In the UK, year-on-year inflation increased to 3.6% in June, up from 3.4% in May, it was announced today.

On Tuesday, it was reported that the US CPI slightly rose in June to 2.7%, while the core CPI, which excludes volatile energy and food prices, was 2.9%.

In the United States, the presentation of corporate earnings resumes today, following Tuesday’s reports from JP Morgan, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo. Today, it will be the turn of Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and Johnson & Johnson, among others.

Futures on Wall Street are declining by 0.13% for the Dow Jones Industrials, 0.20% for the S&P 500, and 0.30% for the Nasdaq.

Meanwhile, oil prices have surged amidst uncertainty in international markets due to US tariff policies.

Brent crude, the benchmark in Europe for September delivery, is rising to $68.84, compared to $68.71 on Tuesday.

Gold per troy ounce, a safe-haven asset, has increased to $3,338.75, from $3,329.32 on Tuesday and the current record high of $3,432.34 on June 13.

The euro appreciated to $1.1624 in the Frankfurt currency market, up from $1.1596 on Tuesday and reaching a new high since September 15, 2021, at $1.1789 on July 2.
