The Public Security Police (PSP) and the Republican National Guard (GNR) arrested 970 individuals throughout the past week, primarily for road-related crimes.
In a statement released to newsrooms this Saturday, the PSP reported that between December 6 and December 12, it detained 504 individuals nationwide.
Among the arrests, 228 were related to road crimes: 138 for driving under the influence of alcohol and 90 for driving without a legal license.
Additionally, 14 suspects were detained for illegal immigration, 41 for theft, robbery, and fraud, 30 for drug trafficking, and 12 for possession of prohibited weapons. During the last week, the PSP registered 278 domestic violence incidents, leading to the arrest of four individuals.
During the same period, authorities confiscated 8,211 individual doses of narcotics, 412 rounds of ammunition, 22 firearms, 22 knives, and ten other weapons.
The report also highlighted the issuance of 2,858 citations during road inspections, including 524 for speeding, 279 for lack of mandatory periodic inspection, 104 for lack of civil liability insurance, 66 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 49 for using a mobile phone while driving, and 15 for not wearing a seatbelt.
The GNR reported 466 arrests between December 5 and December 11. These included 200 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 126 for driving without a legal license, 25 for drug trafficking, 13 for theft, 11 for illegal possession of weapons, and six for domestic violence.
The authority also seized 14,632.9 doses of hashish, 3,620.9 doses of cocaine, 182 doses of MDMA, 139.788 doses of cannabis, 80.5 doses of heroin, 66 cannabis plants, one MDMA pill, and 347 rounds of various calibers, along with 36 vehicles, 28 firearms, 25 knives or prohibited weapons, two explosives, and 139,686.29 euros in cash.
Notably, the majority of the seized money was discovered during a drug trafficking investigation that had been ongoing for two years in the municipality of Felgueiras, resulting in the arrest of two men, both aged 35.

Concerning traffic inspections, 7,061 violations were detected: 1,392 for speeding, 837 for lack of mandatory periodic inspection, 414 related to tachographs, 361 for driving with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit, 277 related to lighting and signaling system anomalies, 235 for lack of civil liability insurance, 153 for improper use of mobile phones while driving, and 147 for failure to use or incorrect use of seat belts and/or child restraint systems.
