The PSP announced that suspects aged between 20 and 39 years were arrested under detention warrants on Tuesday as part of an investigation into motor vehicle thefts.
The police executed 21 search and seizure warrants, both residential and non-residential, resulting in the confiscation of two stolen vehicles, various parts from stolen vehicles, and several tools used for vehicle theft and dismantling.
Additionally, five vehicles used by the suspects for illicit activities, a firearm, an alarm weapon, an electric weapon (“taser”), an extendable baton, a knuckleduster, approximately 716 doses of drugs, and 4,840 euros in cash were seized.
A 26-year-old woman was also arrested red-handed for the crime of bodily harm, following an altercation that occurred during the searches.
The PSP noted that this police action enabled the arrest of multiple theft perpetrators, identified the location where the vehicles were dismantled, and identified several workshops that received and stored stolen parts.
“This operation represents a significant advance in combating vehicle theft and illegal dismantling, halting a criminal activity that has caused substantial property damage in recent months,” the statement added.
The detainees are scheduled to appear this Wednesday before the Criminal Court of Porto for their first judicial questioning and to be informed of any possible coercive measures.
