PSP arrests man for attempted murder. Suspect had a prohibited weapon.

A 38-year-old man was detained by the Public Security Police (PSP) on Monday, November 16, in Faro, on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a prohibited weapon.

The police were alerted following a report of “assaults between two individuals,” the PSP stated in a communiqué. During the altercation, one person fired a gun at the other.

“Given the severity of the situation, police from Faro’s Rapid Reaction Team were immediately dispatched,” confirming the assault and “locating the suspect” near the crime scene.

“The ongoing investigative efforts led to the identification and seizure of the weapon used, a modified alarm gun capable of firing .32 caliber ammunition, categorizing it as a prohibited weapon,” the PSP report continued.

The victim was identified at Faro Hospital, where they received medical treatment for injuries due to the altercation. There, the victim provided a statement supporting the PSP’s account of events.

In light of these facts, the suspect appeared before the competent judicial authority this morning, where he was remanded in custody.

Finally, Faro’s District Command of the PSP reaffirmed its commitment “to the prevention and combating of violent crime, ensuring a quick and effective response,” especially in situations where citizens’ physical integrity is in “serious danger.”
