In statements to Lusa, the president of the ASPP/PSP, Paulo Santos, emphasized the primary concern for the union is linked to the negotiation process initiated by the previous government in January, which he hopes Maria Lúcia Amaral will resume.
“We hope that the minister can address the work done by Dr. Margarida Blasco to address structural issues and has the sensitivity to resume negotiations,” said Paulo Santos.
In January, the police unions of the PSP and GNR began negotiations to discuss salary scales, careers, and the revision of supplements, but the meetings were halted due to the fall of the previous government.
The president of the ASPP/PSP now stressed the importance of the government’s decision to restart negotiations, emphasizing that “the crucial element is the direction the government plans to provide to the police forces.”
At 68, Maria Lúcia Amaral was chosen by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro to replace Margarida Blasco as the Minister of Internal Administration.
Maria Lúcia Amaral was first elected Ombudsperson by the Assembly of the Republic on October 20, 2017, taking office on November 2 of the same year. Four years later, on December 3, 2021, she commenced a second term.
The XXV Constitutional Government will take office on Thursday at 18:00, 18 days after the elections, marking the fastest government formation during Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s presidential mandates.
