The handover of weapons took place as part of the national operation “Armas em segurança, tour de verão 2025,” which commenced on the first of July and concludes on August 31.
In a statement, the PSP explained that the weapons were surrendered during 29 community policing, service, and licensing actions conducted across the country. During these 29 events, “nearly 200 interactions were made with individuals to clarify questions and provide information on licensing processes related to the use, possession, storage, transportation, and utilization of firearms, particularly those associated with hunting activities,” the document sent to newsrooms stated.
Until the end of August, the PSP will be present in Pombal, Mogadouro, Sátão, Penafiel, Penacova, Resende, Cinfães, Vimioso, Rio Maior, Arcos de Valdevez, Porto, Bragança, Vilar Formoso, Trofa, Bragança, Mealhada, Alcobaça, Tondela, Castelo de Paiva, Loures, Mafra, Torres Vedras, and Póvoa do Lanhoso.
The Polícia de Segurança Pública further emphasized that weapons with expired licenses should be turned over to the PSP or placed in a type 2 armory, a licensed establishment for storing and deactivating weapons.
