In a statement, the superintendent of PSP Bragança clarified that there were rumors circulating in WhatsApp groups about residential robberies, with claims of some violent acts by suspects and even specific locations being mentioned.
Following an investigation, Bruno Machado assured that this information is false. “We realized that it was not confirmed information, as we have no record of such occurrences,” he said, adding that the GNR also had no related complaints.
In an effort to alert the public and encourage victims to report robberies, the Bragança Command issued a statement on Friday.
“The dissemination of these contents creates unwarranted social alarm, feeds artificial perceptions of insecurity, and disturbs public tranquility,” the note stated.
Therefore, the PSP urges the population to remain vigilant and adopt a “cautious stance when confronted with content of dubious origin.” “Those who receive such messages should first determine the source, whether it’s a known person potentially involved in such crimes, and then indeed convince that person to report the situation to the police,” advised Bruno Machado.
According to the Annual Internal Security Report, in 2024, crime in the Bragança district decreased by 6% compared to the previous year, making it the safest district in the country.
