PSP detains man convicted of domestic violence. He assaulted his wife again.

The Porto Metropolitan Command of the PSP has arrested a 32-year-old man to serve a prison sentence for domestic violence against his 35-year-old wife, with whom he had a child.

According to a PSP statement to newsrooms, the violence occurred during arguments between the couple and involved “insults, stalking, threats, and physical assaults.”

These incidents date back to 2019, when the perpetrator lived with the victim, resulting in injuries such as “neck abrasions and chest bruising.”

In 2020, the Porto Judicial Court sentenced the defendant for the same crime to two years and 10 months in prison. However, the execution of the sentence was suspended for three years.

Additionally, during this period, the perpetrator was banned from contacting the victim and was subjected to remote surveillance measures.

He was also required to attend the Domestic Violence Prevention Program and undergo an assessment for potential psychological support to improve emotional and behavioral self-regulation.

However, in 2022, the perpetrator committed the same crime against the victim again, leading to the revocation of the suspended sentence. He was detained today and taken to Porto Prison to begin serving the sentence.
