A public statement by Superintendent Sérgio Soares, spokesperson for the Public Security Police (PSP), revealed that a national operation is underway in multiple locations, including the 25 de Abril Bridge, with the primary aim of “supporting drivers and raising awareness about irregular road behaviors”.
The operation focuses on regulating practices such as driving under the influence of alcohol, executing dangerous maneuvers, verifying civil liability insurance, mandatory periodic inspections, and controlling excess speed.
As of 7 PM, the inspection operation, which started at 5 PM and is scheduled to end at 9 PM, has resulted in two arrests for driving without a legal license and 19 offenses.
Regarding the offenses, seven were due to lack of periodic inspection, three for not having insurance, five for missing child restraint systems, one for vehicle modification, two for overloading, and one for missing documents.
In further comments, Superintendent Sérgio Soares emphasized that the increased inspections on the 25 de Abril Bridge aim to “enhance road safety”, especially given the “high traffic volume caused by returning national tourists”.
