PSP in major operation related to brawl in Martim Moniz

The Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (PSP), through the Criminal Investigation Division, is conducting house and non-house searches this Tuesday across Lisbon, Loures, Sintra, Amadora, and Odemira. This operation is related to an investigation stemming from a brawl that occurred in January on Rua do Benformoso, Martim Moniz.

The investigation, under process at the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Lisbon, is focused on crimes involving the possession of prohibited weapons and physical assault.

“The primary objective is the recovery and seizure of weapons used in the illegal act, as well as other instruments without a defined application that could be used as weapons of aggression,” the PSP stated in a release.

The PSP further outlined that the operation aims to “reduce the feeling of insecurity present in the community.”

“This action intends to remove illicit weapons from public areas, thus promoting a safer and more peaceful environment for all residents and users of urban spaces,” the statement emphasized.

When contacted, a PSP source specified that 30 officers from the Criminal Investigation Division are involved in the searches.

The brawl in question, which took place in January, resulted in at least seven injuries. All injured individuals are foreign nationals with a regular status in the country.
