According to the released statement, the first arrest occurred during Sunday’s I Liga football match between Famalicão and Benfica, where a fan belonging to a supporters’ group and subject to a one-year ban from entering sports venues (for setting off a pyrotechnic device in November 2022 during the Famalicão-Sporting match) was detected in the Famalicão stadium. The 22-year-old fan was separated from the organized group of supporters and located in another stand but was eventually found by officers assigned to police the game, violating the ban imposed by the Authority for the Prevention and Combat of Violence in Sport (APCVD).
The other case took place during the match between União de Leiria and Vizela in the II Liga football league on Sunday night. The PSP arrested a 30-year-old fan for “non-compliance with a precautionary measure banning access to sports venues,” a punishment applied following the detonation of a pyrotechnic device in April 2023 during the U. Leiria-Sporting de Braga B match.
“The fan was arrested and taken to the police station to be notified to appear before the competent Judicial Authority. Twenty-five minutes after his release, the suspect was again intercepted by the PSP inside the sports venue, thus incurring a crime of disobedience, and was arrested again,” the PSP explained.
