An officer of the Public Security Police (PSP) was stabbed early Sunday morning during the São Pedro festivities in Ribeira Brava, Madeira.
This information was confirmed by the National Directorate of the PSP, indicating that the officer, who was off duty, is currently hospitalized.
The 24-year-old officer was reportedly “deceived” and subsequently stabbed, according to reports.
The causes of the incident remain unclear, but there are suggestions that substances may have been placed in the officer’s drink, drugging him.
Although initially hospitalized in serious condition, the officer, stationed in Lisbon, underwent surgery on Sunday and is now out of danger.
Efforts are being made to contact the Judicial Police to determine if they have been involved and if the perpetrator of the stabbing has been identified.
