As part of the Safe Summer Operation 2025, the Public Security Police (PSP) issued 335 fines for various offenses, such as lack of mandatory vehicle inspection (40 fines), lack of civil liability insurance (18 fines), driving under the influence of alcohol (nine fines), using a mobile phone while driving (eight fines), and failure to wear a seatbelt (three fines), among others, as detailed in a statement released by the PSP today.
On the last day of vacation for some Portuguese, the PSP recorded 121 road accidents, resulting in 43 injuries—two serious and 41 minor—but no fatalities.
“In fulfilling its competencies in prevention and enforcement within the realm of road safety, the PSP has been particularly concerned with traffic violations and behaviors that distract drivers, as these factors increase the risk of accidents, directly impacting the sense of (in)security among drivers and other users of the main road axes,” the PSP stated in the release.
