The PSP has initiated a disciplinary process against a police officer who once led a domestic violence unit within the force, just four days after his detention for mistreatment and threats against his wife and in-laws.
The PSP informed Lusa that “on March 20, 2025, a disciplinary process was initiated against the said police officer,” four days after his detention by PSP Leiria, where he was subjected to home detention with electronic surveillance as a coercive measure.
This disciplinary process is currently held at the Lisbon Metropolitan Police Command (Cometlis) and is “awaiting a judicial decision,” which is cited as the reason why no significant investigative actions have been conducted so far, the PSP stated this morning.
The officer, currently under house arrest, faces charges of aggravated domestic violence, nine counts of threats, three counts of unauthorized entry into a restricted area, and one count of physical assault.
The accused once held a leadership position in the PSP unit that supports domestic violence victims, but according to information provided to Lusa, at the time of the incidents, the officer “was no longer serving at the RIAV [Integrated Victim Support Response].”
The prosecution, which Lusa accessed, claims the officer threatened his wife and in-laws, emphasizing that the victim “lives in constant fear, justifiably suspecting that the accused might kill her, as well as her parents.”
Throughout the 30-page indictment, the prosecutor highlights that the officer “inflicted psychological abuse on his wife, causing her a state of humiliation, anxiety, and constant fear.”
The officer allegedly told his wife, “You will still become like Pavlov’s dogs. When I look at you in a certain way, you will know what to do.”
He reportedly also said, “You will see what I will do to your family” and “the other day I dreamed I drenched you with gasoline, you pleading for life.”
The indictment further describes an incident where PSP members arrived at the couple’s home to seize his weapons, as he was on psychiatric leave, upon which he allegedly refused and further threatened his wife.
The prosecution indicated, “Even if they take the firearms, there are always knives,” and he added, “I will kill myself, but I won’t go alone.”
The indictment of this PSP officer was reported on Tuesday by the newspaper Expresso.

There were instances where the man boasted to the victims about being friends with Public Prosecutor’s Office prosecutors, attempting to deter any complaints.
