The PSP reported 27,620 road accidents within its jurisdiction in the first half of the year, resulting in 34 fatalities—six fewer than in the same period in 2024.
Data from the PSP indicates that 17 fatalities resulted from vehicle collisions, 12 from road departures, and five from pedestrian accidents.
The incidents in the first semester, which decreased by 1,202 compared to the corresponding period, also caused 372 serious injuries (one less than in 2024) and 8,489 minor injuries (145 fewer).
Since the beginning of the year, 12,647 enforcement operations were conducted nationwide (242 more than the same period in 2024), during which 382,032 drivers were inspected (34,890 more), and 1.35 million vehicles were monitored by radar (111,000 more).
These operations led to 4,827 arrests for traffic-related crimes, including 2,717 for driving under the influence and 2,110 for driving without a license.
A total of 128,174 offenses were recorded, averaging over 10,680 infractions per month.
Among the recorded offenses, 24,481 were for speeding, representing 19% of the total.
Out of 116,428 breathalyzer tests conducted, 2,325 infractions for driving under the influence of alcohol were issued.
According to PSP data, there were 13,724 offenses for missing mandatory periodic inspections, 4,815 for lacking civil liability insurance, 3,337 for using a mobile phone while driving, 1,448 for not wearing seat belts, and 710 for not using restraint systems.
“Currently, human behavior is recognized as the most significant factor in most traffic accidents, whether due to violations and/or disregard for traffic rules and signals or an unexpected event. In highly dynamic urban scenarios with multiple road users constantly in motion, driver behavior is crucial to continue this trend of reducing road accidents,” the PSP states.
The police further emphasize that “only through responsible and safe driving by all road users can the reduction of accidents be achieved.”
