PSP seizes 26 thousand euros in investigation into drug trafficking in Pico

The Regional Command of the PSP in the Azores announced that it had seized “€26,975 in cash, seven doses of marijuana, four doses of cocaine, 5.31 grams of synthetic drugs, 1.23 grams of an indeterminate substance, an air gun resembling a pistol, with a caliber of 4.5 mm [millimeters], and various paraphernalia” linked to drug trafficking activities.

The seizures were conducted in the municipality of Madalena, on the island of Pico, in the Central Group of the Azores. This operation was part of an investigation targeting “several suspects of drug trafficking,” as a police spokesperson informed Lusa agency.

The operation, connected with an “ongoing investigation closely related to drug trafficking in the town of Madalena,” took place at the end of last week and was carried out by the PSP, involving multiple police resources.

The PSP’s Regional Command note indicated that the operation included members from the Criminal Investigation Brigade of Pico, supported by the Criminal Investigation Squad of Horta and the Canine Units of the Horta Police Division.

“With this intervention, the Horta Police Division aims to reduce the scourge of drug consumption and trafficking, deter risky behaviors, and restore a sense of security to the Pico population,” stated the PSP, which continues with the investigation.
