A person was arrested on Monday night, October 13, near a café in Amadora following a noise complaint that escalated with a group throwing stones at officers from the Public Security Police (PSP) who responded to the scene.
The incident occurred in connection with the Cape Verde national football team’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Following the celebrations, a group remained on site, making noise and consuming alcohol and narcotics. The café owners attempted to close but were unsuccessful.
Multiple noise complaints were made to the PSP. The police were met with stone-throwing and subsequently fired several rubber bullets from shotguns.
One person from the group was arrested and taken to the police station, awaiting a preliminary judicial hearing.
