PSP union and GNR associations in protest today in parliament

The initiative, organized by the Independent Police Agents Union (SIAP), the National Association of Guard Sergeants (ANSG), and the Independent Socioprofessional Association of the Guard (ASPIG), plans to gather outside the side entrance of the Assembly of the Republic. Participants will then maintain a silent presence in the parliamentary galleries to observe the debate marking the beginning of the 2026 State Budget discussion.

SIAP president Carlos Torres stated that the protest aims to urge the government to reassess its approach towards law enforcement, aiming to make the profession more attractive by increasing salaries.

The three organizations, which did not sign the July 2024 agreement on risk allowance increases, regret that the government has not initiated meetings to negotiate the terms outlined in that document, specifically the revision of the remuneration status and careers for PSP and GNR members.

“So far, we have not been summoned for negotiation, only meetings,” Carlos Torres remarked, emphasizing that Minister of Internal Administration, Maria Lúcia Amaral, shows “a lack of political will to enhance the police career” and persists in “postponing crucial decisions, leaving officers in an increasingly deep abyss.”
