The police union has called attention to article 4, section 3, of a new regulation, highlighting concerns about a calculation method affecting officers required to work on their days off, especially after returning from holidays. This calculation involves unspecified mathematical rules.
The matter, explained by the president of SPP/PSP, highlights that most officers working in shifts must return to duty the next working day following a holiday period, regardless of their usual day off. This also impacts how their weekly rest is calculated.
Paulo Macedo described this situation as an “abusive” requirement for officers to “compensate for holiday days,” resulting in an increased average weekly working hours beyond the standard 36.
The union leader noted that although a legal injunction was filed about a month and a half ago, it was only recently accepted by the Administrative Court of Lisbon’s Circuit.
As per an order published on June 3 in the official gazette, the new regulations regarding the vacation rights of PSP officers were approved by the national director of the security force, Luís Carrilho, after consultation with representative union structures.
