PSP will pay a rent of almost 18 thousand euros for a building in Porto’s Slaughterhouse

In a proposal accessed by Lusa, the vice-president of the city council, Filipe Araújo, explains that the current Police of Public Security (PSP) station, located at the former Porto Industrial Slaughterhouse in the Campanhã parish, will be demolished due to inadequate conditions.

The PSP will move to a new space, called “Building K,” under construction at the slaughterhouse site, with a gross private area of 1,331 square meters.

The city council believes that this new building will meet the necessary conditions for future PSP occupation, ensuring the maintenance of police presence in the Corujeira area of the city.

Upon completion of construction, a long-term contract is intended, binding the PSP to use the space for 30 years, with an option for renewal upon mutual agreement, states Filipe Araújo.

The city council has also assessed the value of the building to be occupied by the PSP at 4.7 million euros and has determined the monthly rent at 17,702.30 euros.

Once the contract is approved, the proposal will be submitted to the Municipal Assembly.

The conversion of the former Campanhã Industrial Slaughterhouse is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Facilities, including art galleries, museums, offices, and restaurants, are expected to begin operations in early 2026.

The site, to be named M-ODU (Matadouro Outro Destino Urbano), will have a capacity of over 2,300 people.

Eleven buildings will be designated for offices, two for arts galleries and museums, and two for restaurants. There will also be coworking spaces and conference rooms.

The wall of the former slaughterhouse will be demolished, opening the complex to Porto’s eastern zone, with plans for a public square, including the PSP station building.

Excavators began work in May 2021, part of an investment exceeding 40 million euros, fully funded by Mota-Engil. After the 30-year concession, the facility will return to municipal management.
