Public employees with toleration of absence on the 15th in Terceira

The decree from the Regional Government Presidency, published today in the Official Journal, grants a public holiday for the traditional festival known as ‘Serreta Monday’ in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo on Terceira island. This event holds particular significance for the local community, highlighting their cultural identity and honoring Nossa Senhora dos Milagres.

“The religious and cultural manifestations that occur on this day receive strong support and participation from the residents of Terceira island,” stated the decree signed by the President of the Regional Government of the Azores (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM), José Manuel Bolieiro.

The document notes that, as part of the tradition and encouragement of the cultural aspects unique to each Azorean island, it is customary for the Regional Administration to grant a public holiday on ‘Serreta Monday’ for workers in regional services located on Terceira island.

In continuation with previous years, the regional coalition government provides a public holiday on September 15 for the workers of the Regional Public Administration of the Azores, whose services are based on Terceira island.

Exceptions apply to “workers in services and organizations that, due to public interest, must remain operational during this period, as defined by the competent member of the Regional Government.”

“Without prejudice to the continuity and quality of the service to be provided, the highest officials of the services and organizations […] must promote an equivalent exemption from attendance duty for respective workers, on a day to be determined at an appropriate time,” it mentioned.
