Public expenditure monitored by the TdC in 2024 amounts to 265.7 billion.

Compared to the previous year, this represented an increase of 100 entities and nearly four billion euros more.

Throughout the past year, the Court of Auditors audited 2,603 acts and contracts, a rise of 572 from the previous year, comprising approximately 11.5 billion euros, and denied approval for 23 contracts (compared to 27 in 2023).

In the report presentation note, the Court of Auditors president, Filipa Urbano Calvão, noted that 60 audits and other control actions were conducted across 576 accounts of public bodies.

The activity report also indicates that the Court of Auditors decided 34 processes of financial responsibility and concluded the analysis of 450 complaints.

In the summary of the Court of Auditors’ activities in 2024, it is also noted that 6,667 accounts were validated, and 29 specific audits were carried out regarding potential financial responsibilities.

“These results demonstrate the consistency, in quantitative terms, of the Court’s actions, highlighting an improvement trend over the year 2023 in some areas,” stated the president of the Court of Auditors.

Among the highlights selected by Filipa Urbano Calvão are the increase in controlled activities (12.7%), verified accounts (34.9%), decisions issued in prior audit processes (20.5%), actions regarding financial responsibilities (61%), and judgments (36%).

In the past year, 1,416 recommendations were formulated, resulting from the activity developed by the Court in issuing Opinions on the General State Account and the Accounts of the Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira.

Filipa Urbano Calvão also praised the educational activity of the court, “with a special focus on promoting good public resource management among the youth.”
