The Public Prosecutor’s Office has formally charged a suspect accused of fatally shooting three people at a barbershop in Penha de França, Lisbon. The individual faces charges of three counts of aggravated qualified homicide using a firearm, one count of attempted aggravated qualified homicide using a firearm, and one count of unlawful possession of a prohibited weapon, as announced on Friday.
The incident occurred on October 2, 2024, at the Granda Pente barbershop.
The prosecutor’s statement from Lisbon’s District Public Prosecutor’s Office indicates that “the defendant, armed with a firearm, went to the barbershop intending to get a haircut. When he was not attended to immediately, according to the indictment, he shot the barber, another client who was waiting, and the client’s partner, leading to the deaths of the three victims.”
The defendant also “fired at a fourth person, an employee of the barbershop, but did not hit them.”
The investigation was led by the 11th section of Lisbon’s DIAP, with assistance from the Judicial Police.
It is noteworthy that the suspect, Francisco Silva, aged 33, was recently declared fit to stand trial by experts at the National Institute of Legal Medicine, despite a history of psychiatric disorders.
The crime victims were identified as Carlos Pina, the owner of the barbershop, and the couple Bruno Neto and Fernanda Júlia.
The barber was found deceased inside the premises, while the other two victims were found lying on the sidewalk. The woman was pregnant, and the couple already had a daughter together. Additionally, Fernanda was also the mother of a boy from a previous relationship.
The suspect, a resident in the Penha de França neighborhood with a history of disputes with neighbors, fled with his father and brother and sought refuge in a neighborhood in Pinhal Novo. He was located and surrounded by police, eventually surrendering with the help of family members.
The man remains in pre-trial detention.
