The Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the breaking of glass at the Estádio José Alvalade stands during the Sporting-FC Porto Primeira Liga football match, which resulted in 17 injuries.
“An inquiry has been initiated, handled by the DIAP [Department of Investigation and Penal Action] of Lisbon, which originated from a report by the PSP [Public Security Police],” stated a response sent to Notícias ao Minuto by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The incidents occurred on Saturday during the ‘dragons’ victory against the ‘lions’ with a score of 2-1, resulting in injuries to seventeen individuals.
The PSP confirmed on that day that “broken glass fell onto the stands of Sporting supporters” and that one of the injured was taken to Hospital de Santa Maria.
All injuries were considered minor.
The PSP further explained that emergency services were dispatched to the scene, but some individuals left the stadium and called 112.
A video widely shared on social media shows the moment FC Porto fans, present at the match, returned to their seats after breaching a barrier at the location. The glass gave way after being heavily pressed, causing shrapnel to injure several fans of the national champions.
A segurança falhou.

The Disciplinary Council (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) also opened an inquiry into the incident.
The FPF’s CD aims to assess the “disciplinary relevance” of the glass breakage on the railing of one of the northern stands of the ‘lion’s arena.
“The initiation followed the information in the league delegate’s report and a submission from the Integrity and Compliance Unit of the Portuguese Football Federation,” the inquiry process’s opening note stated.
This dossier, which will be conducted privately until the instruction’s end, was sent on Monday to the Portuguese Professional Football League’s (LPFP) Instructors Committee.

In the post-match summary, authorities reported that four fans were removed from the stadium for excessive alcohol consumption. They also noted two arrests: one before the game for disobedience and another at the end for illegal access to the sports venue.
Five individuals were identified for using pyrotechnics. Four fans attempted to enter with illegal tickets, and a report was made for throwing objects.
Notably, FC Porto emerged victorious in the Classic against Sporting. Luuk de Jong and William Gomes scored for Porto, while an own goal by Nehuén Pérez narrowed Sporting’s deficit.
