The Rio de Janeiro Public Prosecution Office (MPRJ) has announced a new protocol with the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Portugal, aimed at fostering institutional and technical collaboration in the fight against organized and transnational crime. This partnership will leverage technologies for criminal investigation, enhance functional training, and reinforce the defense of the rule of law.
“The protocol signed today with the Attorney General of Portugal not only strengthens ties between the MPRJ and the Portuguese Public Prosecutor’s Office but also results in effective actions to combat transnational organized crime through the sharing of information and the use of advanced technological resources,” stated State Attorney General Antonio José Campos Moreira.
The MPRJ highlighted that this initiative “consolidates relations between the public ministries of Portuguese-speaking countries” and underscores “the importance of international cooperation to overcome common challenges faced by judicial system institutions, as well as improving the mechanisms to fight organized crime.”
The agreement, initially set for five years, includes provisions for joint seminars, technical meetings, working groups, research projects, sharing best practices, and exchanges between members and collaborators of both institutions.
These activities will be managed by specific units within each public prosecution office, responsible for setting schedules and operational tools.
