According to the Associação dos Industriais da Construção Civil e Obras Públicas (AICCOPN), contracts awarded through public tenders reached 5.345 billion euros, marking a 109% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. This growth was mainly driven by the contract for the Porto to Oiã (Oliveira do Bairro) section of the high-speed railway line, valued at 1.661 billion euros.
Public works contracts awarded through direct awards or prior consultations also saw an increase, though more modest, rising by 8% year-on-year to a total of 540 million euros.
The category “other contracts awarded” also experienced a significant increase of 122%, reaching a total amount of 345 million euros.
From January to September, 6,187 public works tenders were promoted, with an overall value of 8.624 billion euros. This represents increases of 66% in the number of tenders and 33% in their value, compared to the same period in 2024.
AICCOPN attributes this to “a strong acceleration in the dynamics of public investment.”
