
The decree was approved on July 9 by the Superior Council of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, chaired by the Attorney General, Amadeu Guerra, and includes positions that allow magistrates to work in various departments and courts simultaneously, sometimes combining criminal, civil, and family and juvenile jurisdictions.
For the Union of Public Prosecutors (SMMP), this constitutes “the final nail” in the specialization of prosecutors’ functions.
On July 9, 10, 11, 14, and 15, a national strike followed by three days of regional walkouts, organized by SMMP, saw participation rates between 75% and 100%.
The Attorney General’s Office has justified the decision with the need to “optimize existing resources” in a “context of recognized and notorious shortage of human resources.”
