
In June, during the festivities of the Santos Populares, transactions by foreigners accounted for 21% of total purchases and withdrawals, reports SIBS Analytics. This figure marks an increase of 12% compared to the same period last year.
“Transactions and payments with MB WAY saw a significant rise of 31%, with an average ticket of 20 euros. Overall, compared to the daily average of transactions in June, the nights of Santo António, São João, and São Pedro noted an 18% increase in transactions, with an average ticket value of 27 euros,” according to a statement accessed by Notícias ao Minuto.
The data highlights that, among the different Santos Populares nights, the greatest transaction growth, at +46% compared to the June average, occurred on the night of June 28-29 during São Pedro celebrations, reaching an average purchase value of 30 euros.
“Simultaneously, purchases and withdrawals with MB WAY rose proportionally, with an average spend of 24 euros. Foreigners accounted for 13% of the total transactions, up 39% from the previous year. From midnight to 4 a.m., the transaction volume saw the most significant increase compared to the daily average in June, peaking at 3 a.m. with a 149% rise,” SIBS notes.
In Lisbon, during the night of Santo António, June 12-13, “purchases and withdrawals increased by 23% compared to the June average, with an average spend per transaction of 26 euros.”
“The highest operational variation against the daily average occurred at 3 a.m., with a growth peak of 99%. Transactions with MB WAY increased by 33% compared to the June daily average, with an average spend of 17 euros. Transactions by foreigners accounted for 30% of the total, a 11% increase over the comparable period,” the report continues.
Further north, on the night of São João, June 23-24, “transaction numbers rose by 13%, reaching an average purchase value of 24 euros.”
“Purchases and withdrawals with MB WAY increased by 16% from the June average, with an average ticket of 19 euros. Starting from 1 a.m., the operational variation compared to the same hours on other days in June exceeded 100%, hitting 220% and 241% at 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., respectively. Transactions by foreign cards made up 20% of the total, an 8% increase from 2024,” the same statement reveals.
