A live pygmy sperm whale was found stranded on Praia Velha de Esmoriz on Thursday. The “difficult decision” to “euthanize the animal” was made.
On the Instagram account ‘Resgate Animais Marinhos’ (@arrojamentos), a post was made regarding the situation: “Today [Yesterday] a live pygmy sperm whale stranded on Praia Velha de Esmoriz. Our team immediately went to the site and, after assessing the animal’s condition, decided to proceed with euthanasia.”
“This difficult decision was based on the irreversible injuries the animal displayed, prioritizing the animal’s well-being and minimizing its suffering,” the statement explained.
The page also expressed gratitude “to the Volunteer Firefighters of Esmoriz and to everyone who tried to help on the beach.”
